Most of us, Saturdays are the time where we take that extra snooze time and just relax. But last Saturday, mine was a different story. Our house was almost on fire. Mom woke me up and she was screaming that the house beside ours was on fire. It was just me and my mom in our house.
What came to my mind first was to calm down and collect myself. Good thing I have my bags packed because I was supposed to have an overnight in the commissary because of work (but my sister texted me Friday morning that I needn't to come till Sunday instead).
Our neighbors were screaming outside our house that we must get out because fire is getting bigger very fast. What me and my mom did was we threw our stuff out of the veranda so that our neighbors could catch it. I just got what was important: some clothes, money and other important documents. I thought that I'd just leave whatever is in my room because they are just material things and that they can be replaced.. But not my life.
The smoke was getting thick inside my room already and I could feel suffocation and my eyes start to get teary because of it. Then, I went to my parent's room and helped mom get what's need to be packed. She was hard-headed like me, and she never left our house though we were being told to get out.

Somehow I was losing hope because the fire is bigger and it can damage our house. Then the firemen came and swiftly started to assemble their hoses. The fire started in the 2nd floor of the house, so the firemen needed to be on top so that they can extinguish it. We opened our house to the firemen and they went to our rooftop. Of course security of our house is a must because of the tension everywhere, there are a lot of looters wanting to get something.. With the help of our neighbors, they secured every entrance of our house and they never left.
When the firemen declared "fire out", we all felt relived especially my family. We couldn't thank enough everyone who helped us. We are so grateful for this another life God gave us.
It made me realize that life is a gift that we should take care and that material things are just objects that can be replaced We should also protect our family at any cost.
Thankful also to our firewall, our house was safe.
